Oahu:
Aloha Brent.
If there are no waves up on the North Shore go dive the caves at Sharks cove. They have some crazzzzzzyyy good caves you can dive in they arent far from shore actually right on shore, there is parking right above the dive spot and an amazing place to see the hawaiian coastline. I have spent my childhood diving those caves and I promise you will have a good time. They go from shallow to deep as you want. Hope this helps. If you drive up to the north shore,, right past waimea bay you come to a FoodLand its in the parkinglot right past the foodland "across the street" almost on the ocean side. Worthy spot for the 40 min drive if you are in town. |
Re: Another malihini from So Cal looking for advice
The North Shore is getting hit pretty hard. What also sucks is that the swell wraps the island REALLY well. Your best bet might be to southern shore spots like Kaka'ako beach park or Magic Island right outside the lagoon. Those places might yeild the best visibility but beware of sharks. I just recently had to pay shark tax with a Moana Kali on my way back in at Kaka'ako.
Shore diving is typically okay. Just make sure you have a float and flag. http://state.hi.us/dlnr/dar/regulated_areas_oahu.html This link has the places that are off limits. Also, it has the protected species here: http://state.hi.us/dlnr/dar/regulated_fish_mfv.html The locals will express their disgust if you bring undersized or even slightly past legal size fish out of the water with you. Be safe and don't take anything you don't need. Over fishing is a huge problem here. |
